The seabird nesting site Andotten close to Sørvær is a well-known landmark on Sørøya. It might be one the most -often photographed motives on the entire island! Particularly the midnight sun above Andotten is simply breath-taking!

The mountain has a characteristic plateau about 355 m above the sea and strikingly resembles the North Cape, that is why it is often referred to as "North Cape en miniature"!

Here you can observe a variety of marine birds, for example kittiwakes and other seagulls as well as cormorants. The birdlife is why Andotten became a nature reservation by law in January 1983. The goal is to preserve the bird cliff and the area with its associated flora and fauna.

Specific rules apply in this wildlife area:

  • The introduction of new flowers is prohibited.
  • All animals (including marine mammals) and their wintering and nesting sites and their eggs are protected from any kind of damage and disturbance. Hunting and the use of firearms as well as unleashed dogs are prohibited between March, 1st and September,  30th .
  • All activities that may affect the environment in a negative way, such as transport, construction, littering etc. are prohibited.
  • The use of motorized land vehicles is prohibited.
  • Camping, erecting tents and similar is prohibited.

From the plateau, you have a wonderful view over the Sørvær area. The terrain is well-suited for walking, and you are allowed to come by boat, too. It is also allowed to pick berries and mushrooms.
